Patch 1.2
The 1.2 upgrade patch for Medieval II: Total War was released on 4th May 2007.
This patch should be installed over a clean version of the original game, not over an installation already modified or using the unofficial v1.2 patch. CA report that it should work over an installation patched to v1.1, some members of the community have reported problems with that however. You may need to un-install and re-install the game before applying the patch if you have made any alterations to it.
Note: as reported on the Official Forums
- If after installing the patch you restart the computer and it requires you to click your name to access your own computer. this is due to .Net 1.1 which was installed on your PC during the patch install.

Fixes
The most important fixes concerned battle map behaviour, and reduction of problems previously experiences with a passive AI. Some CTD causes were also resolved.
Bugs
Some problems are still reported with the game after patching, these are being compiled at:
Largest Patch in History?
When this patch was released there were questions about whether it is the largest game patch ever released. Weighing in at an incredible 650MB the size of the download did cause some consternation amongst the TW community.
As well as various bug fixes and improvements a new Battle Editor and a Cinematic Editor were added to the game.

The Unofficial Patch
An unofficial version of patch 1.2 was circulating in the community for a while. This patch 'escaped' due to CA sending the download to various mirror sites before the official release time. They subsequently discovered some bugs where not resolved at that stage and decided to cancel the release of the patch, a few of the sites that had been sent the preliminary patch released it anyway - hence the 'unofficial' version.
If you used that version it is recommended that you re-install and use the official patch.
Patch 1.1
The first patch for M2TW was superseded by patch 1.2. You DO NOT need version 1.1 installed before upgrading to version 1.2 - indeed it is normally recommended that you install 1.2 on a fresh unpatched installation.
